Update on Employee Pay During Power Shutdown

October 30, 2019 - 5:03pm

During the power shutdown, the campus was closed and employees were only working if directed to by their appropriate administrator.

The University has many different employee classifications and collective bargaining agreements. Please see below for general information about pay status, and check with your supervisor, Human Resources, or Academic Personnel Services if you have specific questions.

Student Employees

All student employees at HSU will be paid for the hours missed during the power shutdown. Student employees should include the time they would have otherwise worked when submitting their upcoming timesheet. This applies to all students, including those working for auxiliaries.

State-side Employees

All state-side employees were placed on administrative paid leave during the shutdown time. They were required to be able to return to work during their normal schedule.

For employees who were asked to return to work, payment will occur in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements (CBA).This means CSUEU employees will be paid time-and-a-half and Teamster employees will be paid straight time in addition to their paid-administrative-leave.

During periods of full or partial campus closure, employees who have already scheduled sick leave, vacation, personal holiday, or CTO will still be charged for that time. Employees represented by APC will not be charged any leave in accordance with the CBA.

Please note that state-side employees include those represented by unions and employees who work directly for the University. This typically excludes auxiliary employees (SPF, University Center, etc).

Auxiliary Employees

All student auxiliary employees will be paid for the hours missed during the power shutdown. Student employees should include the time they would have otherwise worked when submitting their upcoming timesheet.

For Sponsored Program Foundation, SPF staff will be contacting student employees over the next few days to ensure students complete the proper documents to be paid for this time.

For exempt and non-exempt auxiliary employees, please check with your supervisor for information and details.

If you have any questions regarding pay, your status as a state-side or non-state-side employee, or any other related questions, please check with your supervisor, call Human Resources at (707) 826-3626, or call Academic Personnel Services at (707) 826-5086.
