    HSU classes will resume and operations will return to normal on Friday, Oct. 11. Students, staff, and faculty will return to their normal schedules. All buildings will be open and operational. 

    Everyone is encouraged to dress casually and wear their HSU green-and-gold.

    Today’s Services and Activities for Students

    Now that power has been restored and campus safety checks have been completed, HSU staff have been able to open additional services for students on campus.

    As of 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, areas that will re-open for regular hours include the Health Center, the University Center, spaces within Nelson Hall East, and the Student Rec Center.

    All HSU students, faculty, and staff are invited to a free “Power-up Dinner” in the J from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 10.

    The event offers a chance for the campus community to connect and unwind following the county-wide power outage. Please bring your campus ID.

    Students are also invited to free breakfast and lunch at the J through 2 p.m. today. And the University will be offering fun activities for students at and near the J throughout the afternoon and continuing until midnight, including movies, board games, and more.

    Students living on- and off-campus are invited to the J for free breakfast and lunch until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. Please bring your student ID.

    Parking permits are not required to park on campus through the end of Thursday.

    Power has been restored to campus and to most of Humboldt County as of early this morning. Please note that CAMPUS REMAINS CLOSED. Classes and regular campus operations are anticipated to resume tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 11.

    Due to the county-wide power outage, the HSU campus remains CLOSED through at least Thursday, October 10. All classes as well as regularly scheduled activities and events are canceled. Buildings across campus are closed. 

    During the outage, parking permits are not required to park on campus.

    PG&E announced it will shut down power throughout Humboldt County, including campus, at midnight tonight. Please prepare for an extended power outage.

    All classes and on-campus events have been canceled until further notice. HSU will continue to provide additional updates about classes and events.

    Preparations for a Potential Outage

    PG&E announced power may be shut down throughout Humboldt County as soon as tonight.

    The possible county-wide outage may last up to five days.

     

    As a precautionary measure, the University is preparing for a possible outage. In the event of an outage, students are advised to: 

    -- stay in their residence halls. 

    -- avoid lighting candles

    -- turn up your refrigerator to the highest setting.

    Due to weather that poses a potential fire hazard in neighboring counties, PG&E may shut off power throughout Humboldt County as soon as tonight.

    The possible county-wide outage may last up to five days.

    As a precautionary measure, the University is preparing for a possible outage. The University will keep you updated with information on addressing critical needs -- such as food and housing-- and whether classes will be canceled.
